EVOLUTION: A Unique Approach to Anterior Single-Tooth Implant Therapy

Reading time: 2 minutes

Gamborena:Blatz

Drs. Iñaki Gamborena and Markus B. Blatz push the boundaries of anterior single-tooth implant therapy with their highly anticipated book EVOLUTION: Contemporary Protocols for Anterior Single-Tooth Implants.

Despite major developments in implant dentistry such as minimally invasive surgical techniques, novel implant designs, esthetic restorative materials, and innovative CAD/CAM technologies, much of the available dental literature does not assist the clinician in achieving optimal long-lasting esthetic and functional outcomes. This book addresses that problem while seeking to inspire the clinician to move beyond the basic knowledge of dental practice and embrace imagination, creativity, and curiosity to achieve clinical excellence.

Intended for clinicians and dental technicians, this book opens new pathways for the treatment of single-tooth dental implants in the esthetic zone. It also propels readers to the forefront of innovative implant protocols and contemporary clinical procedures while providing a concise overview of up-to-date scientific evidence—with the ultimate goal of promoting the best possible care for patients.

The visual presentation of this book is quite a departure from traditional textbooks. One could liken it to that of video clips played in adjustable slow motion, which allows readers to follow every step at their own pace and stop whenever they feel necessary to review what they find important—observing the small details that may make the difference between failure and success. At 440 pages and with 2,100 illustrations, the book takes readers on a unique visual journey that provides step-by-step guidance to mastering anterior single-tooth implant therapy.

Abstract: Congenital or acquired maxillary defects cause various esthetic and functional problems. Maxillary deficiency can be prosthetically restored with an obturator. Computer-aided design/computer-assisted manufacture (CAD/CAM) technology, which had been used exclusively in fixed prosthodontics, is now being more widely used in other fields, including removable prosthodontics, after the introduction of software and availability of a comprehensive solution for designing and manufacturing a removable partial denture (RPD). The rapid prototyping (RP) technique enables precise fabrication of the RPD framework in a shorter time period compared to conventional methods. This case report describes the fabrication of an obturator using the RP technique in a patient who underwent hemimaxillectomy of the soft palate.
